I can still remember my first devastating breakup like it was yesterday. It was less than a month after I’d graduated high school, and I’d just hit the 9- month mark with Jack.* Jack and I knew (but were in denial) it was nearing the inevitable end, and sure enough, his cheating, my grudge-holding, and our differences brought us to the finish of our fledgling relationship. Of course, the few months following the breakup were filled with pestering “what-ifs” and resentment, but one thing that avoided me during that time was the one thing I should have looked for and used: grace.
